Week 2. Wednesday: There's More Than This Life

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Ecclesiastes 3:9-11

9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Solomon begins with an important question. What do workers gain from their toil? We spend a lot of time at work. In other words, what do you gain from how you spend so much of your time? Then Solomon tells us that there is something so much bigger than this life. God has “set eternity in the human heart” so that we will long for a relationship with Him.

Takeaway: In light of eternity, life is short. Use your time wisely.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

• Does your job take up the majority of your time? Why or why not?

• Do you feel like work keeps you from having enough time with your family? Is there any way to adjust your schedule so you spend more time at home?

• How much time do you spend investing in your eternity? What needs to change so you can prioritize your relationship with God?

PRAY: Ask God to help you prioritize your relationship with Him and your family.
