Real Mature (W3D2) Worthy of the Gospel

Week 3. Tuesday: Worthy of the Gospel

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Philippians 1:27

27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

  2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Paul reassures the Philippians that will persevere together for the faith of the gospel. He uses the phrase “stand firm” to emphasize the need for a strong perseverance in the face of hardship. Then Paul uses the phrase “striving together” which refers to fighting together in battle. Think about a team of soldiers strive together in battle. They support each other, have each other’s back, and they don’t leave anyone behind. This is a great picture of what the church should be.

Takeaway: Follow Jesus for yourself, but never by yourself.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

What do you think it looks like to “stand firm in one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel”?

How can handling difficult situations alone be dangerous? Think about a time when you handled something alone and it would have been better to seek help.

PRAY: Ask God to help you identify a few people that you can seek help from.
